Disneyland Resort Kicks off Summer with the Opening of Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure Park

Well, it looks like it’s time to make a trip to Southern California. The Disneyland Resort is kicking off summer with the opening of Pixar Pier opening at Disney California Adventure Park. Pixar stories and characters come to life in this newly reimagined land that features the thrilling Incredicoaster and Pixar Pal-A-Round attractions, imaginative neighborhoods, Pixar-inspired food, the Lamplight Lounge, plus exciting entertainment and more. Guests will experience the wonderful worlds of Pixar in incredible new ways on this seaside waterfront at the Disneyland Resort.

The year 2018 marks the “Year of Pixar” at Disney Parks, where guests are celebrating two decades of Pixar stories and characters. In addition to the opening of Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure park, Disneyland Resort is celebrating with the limited-time Pixar Fest, a celebration of friendship and beyond, through Sept. 3, 2018. Shanghai Disney Resort recently opened Disney•Pixar Toy Story Land, and Walt Disney World opens Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on June 30, 2018.

MTV Launches “MTV Studios”

MTV announced the launch of MTV Studios, a new unit focused on developing new series and re-imaginations of its most iconic hits for partners across SVOD and Linear. MTV Studios will develop and produce a full slate with a focus on beloved series, franchises, and spin-offs that span MTV’s 35-year history.

MTV Studios’ initial slate includes a reimagined version of the feminist icon “Daria” with writer Grace Edwards from “Inside Amy Schumer”; cult sci-fi hit “Aeon Flux” from “Teen Wolf” creator Jeff Davis; groundbreaking reality series “The Real World” and an update of the Emmy Award-winning coming of age unscripted series “Made.”

The slate will also include two new titles including “The Valley”, a coming of age docuseries in the spirit of “The Hills” and “Siesta Key” which follows a group of young friends growing up in the Valley town of Nogales, Arizona, a city split in half, with one side in the United States and the other in Mexico. Also included is “MTV’s Straight Up Ghosted,” which follows young people trying to reconnect with lost friends, lovers and family members and confront them about why they have been ghosted.

“MTV has the biggest collection of hit youth franchises that spans more than three decades of content and over 200 titles, part of which have fueled our resurgence,” said Chris McCarthy, President of MTV. “With MTV Studios, we are for the first time ever opening up this vault beyond our own platforms to reimagine the franchises with new partners.”

MTV Studios builds on MTV’s growth in the past year, as the brand has reclaimed its core of youth, music, and reality programming. MTV is currently the fastest growing network on TV, with viewership in prime time up 21% year-over-year. Additionally, MTV attracted 2.9 billion streams in 2018, up +83% YoY, and has amassed more than 350 million social followers around the globe. The brand’s rapid growth across platforms offers MTV Studios’ partners a vibrant marketing platform for new and reimagined co-productions alike.

The 2018 “MTV Movie & TV Awards” Scores Double Digit Increase with 3.371 Million Total Viewers

Hosted by Tiffany Haddish, last night’s “MTV Movie & TV Awards” scored a 21% increase across the simulcast with 3.371 million total viewers. The telecast was the number one most social show in all of television, even beating the World Cup. It was the most streamed “MTV Movie & TV Awards” ever with 84.6M streams and counting.

The official #MTVAwards was trending #1 in the U.S. and globally on Monday for the two-hour telecast. Additionally, three of the top winners of the night, Michael B. Jordan, Chadwick Boseman and Chris Pratt, all trended in the U.S. during the show.

Star Wars Robot Vacuums Are A Thing

I find that I haven’t grown out of having toys. They just tend to be cooler and more expensive as I get older. That’s why when I saw that Samsung was coming out with Star Wars Robot vacuums I geeked out quite a bit. I mean serious putting “adulting” chores and Star Wars is a win in my book.

The vacuums have a full view sensor which is so good that it can avoid things like chair legs or a wider area. They also have a bristle brush and drop-down shutter to capture dust trapped in corners and along the edges of walls. You can also remotely control the vacuum through an app on your phone or use voice control with Amazon Alexa or the Google Assistant to control it.

But the best part about the vacuum it comes as either Darth Vader or a StormTrooper with pre-installed iconic phrases and sound effects while it’s working.

Director James Wan Confirms Aquaman Trailer Will Premiere At SDCC

After many months of speculation and newly released pictures, James Wan has confirmed on Twitter that the extremely highly anticipated “Aquaman” movie trailer will premiere at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con. He wrote “Comic-Con will be insane!! This is the new glyph/logo. Freshly smuggled out of Atlantis! (stolen off King Orm’s belt buckle)“.

An icon for over 70 years, Aquaman is the King of the Seven Seas. This reluctant ruler of Atlantis, caught between a surface world constantly ravaging the sea and Atlanteans looking to lash out in revolt, is committed to protecting the entire globe.

The Aquaman cast includes Jason Momoa as the King of Atlantis, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko,  Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Ludi Lin as Murk, Patrick Wilson as King Orm/Ocean Master, Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman as Atlanta.

JARVIS – Marvel’s “Iron Man” Mobile App is Six Kinds of Cool!

Talk about feeling like Tony Stark! Marvel just came out with a new mobile app today, released free to all iOS devices, called JARVIS. For those who don’t know who JARVIS is, he is the “digital AI” assistant that help’s “Iron Man” in all three movies. Voiced by the amazingly cool British actor Paul Bettany, the app acts as a digital assistant. It can access local weather, post to social media, and be an alarm clock. It’s also is a second screen experience when watching “Iron Man 3”, which comes to DVD on September 24. You’ll be able to unlock exclusive content from the Marvel universe.

I just downloaded it and loved it! If you’re an Iron Man, Tony Stark fan, this app was made for you in every way. Did I mention it was free? What I am looking forward to is when Marvel takes the next step with it. I mean come on, I want to be able to talk with Jarvis like I talk with Siri. Your move Marvel!

“The Avengers” To Screen For The Crew Of International Space Station

Marvel Studios announced last week that they arranged with NASA to transfer their record-breaking blockbuster film “Marvel’s The Avengers” to NASA’s Mission Control in Houston, which will uplink the film to the International Space Station (ISS), currently orbiting 220 miles above Earth. The film will then be screened for the space station crew’s exclusive enjoyment.

This screening continues Marvel’s collaboration with NASA, which began during principal photography of “Marvel’s The Avengers” when the film shot at the Space Power Facility at NASA’s Plum Brook Station in Sandusky, Ohio.

Louis D’Esposito, Marvel Studios’ Co-President and Executive Producer of  “Marvel’s The Avengers,” says, “The studio is privileged to share ‘Marvel’s The Avengers’ with those up in space exploring the universe.  A special thanks goes to NASA for utilizing their incredible technology to make this special screening miles above us in space happen.  It is a screening that would make Tony Stark envious.”

Films, books, and music offer important aspects of psychological support for astronauts on long-duration missions, such as those on the International Space Station (ISS). “These are the types of things that help to keep the crew connected to home, which is a huge morale boost while being away for long periods of time,“ said Dan Cook, Psychological Support Coordinator with Wyle, a contractor at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. Aside from watching movies and television shows, ISS crewmembers have a number of options for their leisure and personal time, such as reading books or magazines, listening to music, and playing musical instruments.

The current space station mission is Expedition 31 and has a six-member crew consisting of 2 NASA Astronauts, 1 European Space Agency (ESA) Astronaut, and 3 Russian (RU) Cosmonauts as follows: Don Pettit (NASA), Joe Acaba (NASA), Andre Kuipers (ESA), Oleg Kononenko (RU), Gennady Padalka (RU), Sergei Revin (RU).

James Cameron to Bring ‘AVATAR’ to Life at Disney Parks

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Worldwide is joining forces with visionary filmmaker James Cameron and Fox Filmed Entertainment to bring the world of AVATAR to life at Disney parks. Through an exclusive agreement announced this week by Disney, Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment, and Fox, Disney will partner with Cameron and producing partner Jon Landau to create themed lands that will give theme park guests the opportunity to explore the mysterious universe of AVATAR first hand.

Disney plans to build the first AVATAR-themed land at Walt Disney World, within the Animal Kingdom park. With its emphasis on living in harmony with nature, Animal Kingdom is a natural fit for the AVATAR stories, which share the same philosophy. Construction is expected to begin by 2013.

The agreement announced this week gives The Walt Disney Company exclusive global theme park rights to the AVATAR franchise and provides for additional AVATAR themed lands at other Disney parks.

The other locations will be determined by Disney and its international theme park partners. James Cameron, Jon Landau, and their Lightstorm Entertainment group will serve as creative consultants on the projects and will partner with Walt Disney Imagineering in the design and development of the AVATAR themed lands.

 

Seth MacFarlane Donates to Local Animal Shelter

I didn’t think I could love Seth anymore than I already do, but when he goes off and does something like this, you can’t help but tip your hat to him as Seth is paying tribute to his mother by teaming up with Heaven on Earth Society for Animals, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit.

Ann Perry MacFarlane, mother of Seth and Rachael MacFarlane, died one year ago. Perry, as she was known, was a lifelong animal lover and a tireless rescuer. Over the course of her life, she cared for all manner of wild and domestic animals, ones that no one else would help. On the year anniversary of Perry’s death, Seth MacFarlane and Heaven on Earth Society for Animals announce the establishment of Perry’s Place—The Perry MacFarlane Sanctuary at Heaven on Earth.

According to Heaven on Earth Founder Eri Kriteman, “This gift will, at last, enable our organization to purchase our own sanctuary property. And there’s so much more we can do if we can put down roots.” What separates Heaven on Earth from other rescues is a commitment to cats that are often overlooked for adoption due to special needs.

Heaven on Earth Board President Ritchie Geisel says, “MacFarlane’s generosity will not only allow us to purchase and build a new sanctuary and adoption center, it will allow us to continue our lifesaving work as Perry’s special legacy.” In order to do so, Heaven on Earth launches the Perry’s Place fundraising campaign.

Heaven on Earth is one of the only shelters in the Los Angeles area that specializes in cats with a lower potential for adoption, including those that are elderly, FIV+ and behaviorally or physically challenged. The organization’s mission is to improve the quality of life for homeless animals, especially those who are often overlooked because of special needs. Heaven on Earth Society for Animals, founded in 2000, operates a cage-free, no-kill sanctuary located in Van Nuys, CA.
