Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Twitch Stream Is Watched By 400,000+

Recently Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez live-streamed herself playing the popular game”Among Us” with several high profiled Twitch streamers. The stream saw over 400,00+ people watching live. It became the third most-watched stream on Twitch.

For those who don’t game regularly, “Among Us” is a hugely popular online murder mystery game. It involves players called crewmembers trying to fix a broken spaceship, but there is a player called an impostor within the group that is tasked with both sabotaging and murdering the other players. Crewmembers must find the imposter while dealing with their specific tasks to win the game.

During the live-stream, she appealed to viewers in the United States “to get out the vote” ahead of the U.S. election on November 3 in 12 days. Fellow Congresswoman Ilhan Omar also joined the live stream to play as well.

The stream lasted roughly about three and a half hours.

I firmly believe in the eSports is going to grow bigger every year. So it’s great to hear that ESPN, Disney XD, and Blizzard Entertainment announced an exclusive multiyear agreement for live television coverage of the Overwatch League™, the world’s first major global city-based esports league.

Ronda Rousey To Make Video Game Debut As WWE 2K19 Pre-Order Bonus Character

It’s been a good while since I have sat down and watched wrestling on tv. Though as a fan of MMA, I was not surprised to hear that Ronda Rousey was moving over to the WWE after her losses in the UFC. She is an Olympic medalist, feature film actress, and UFC Hall of Famer, so the WWE was a perfect fit for her to continue her career as “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey. I mean the WWE Universe was really put on notice with her surprise Royal Rumble 2018 appearance, blockbuster WrestleMania 34 debut match. So it’s a solid fit for her to make her WWE video game debut in WWE 2K19, the forthcoming release in the flagship WWE video game franchise.

Rousey, alongside former WWE Champion Rey Mysterio, will be available as bonus content for those who pre-order the game at participating retailers for the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X and Windows PC. WWE 2K19 is currently scheduled for worldwide release on October 9, 2018, with early access players receiving their copies and in-game bonuses beginning four days early on October 5, 2018.

Fornite Has Second Most Successful iOS Launch…Ever

For those who don’t follow the gaming world Fornite: Battle Royale is the newest player vs player game sweeping the gaming industry and within 90 days of their iOS launch through in-app purchases has made $100 million making it the second most successful iOS launch of all time. The one game Fortnite’s iOS did not beat was Clash Royale, though outplaced Clash Royale in those first three months.

Already on Xbox One, Playstation 4, PC, and Mac, Fortnite came to iOS this past April and has recently launched on Nintendo Switch. Fornite is considered the most successful free-to-play game on consoles. Case in point, according to the latest analysis, Fornite made $223 million across all platforms in March. That is up 73% from the month before.

Have you played Fornite? Let me know in the comment section below.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Achieves More Than Four Hundred Million Total Players

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), announced today that over four-hundred million total players worldwide have played PUBG across all platforms (Steam, kakao, DMM, Xbox One, Mail.Ru, iOS and Android) to date, engaging more than 227 million players monthly, making it one of the most played games in the world. To celebrate the milestone, PUBG will be discounted for the first time on Steam starting today for a limited time, priced at $19.99, welcoming new fans to join the worldwide gaming phenomenon.

It is not surprising that they are pushing a sale as one of their competitors Epic Game’s “Fornite” is starting to really build a lot of traction around their own game. If anything changing the way the gaming industry looks at player vs player video games.

The Verge said it best “The game is forcing game studios and publishers to rethink how their products are developed, monetized, and updated over time. The game made an estimated $300 million in the month of April entirely on in-app purchases of items like costumes, dance moves, and other cosmetics that have no effect on your ability to compete”.

So more power to PUBG but if I had to guess Fornite is winning the gaming world over quicker.

Esports Market Worth 2,174.8 million USD by 2023

According to the new market research report, published by MarketsandMarkets™, the market is expected to be worth USD 926.3 million in 2018 and is expected to reach USD 2,174.8 million by 2023, at a CAGR of 18.61% between 2018 and 2023. Media rights (subscription and online advertisement), tickets and merchandise, sponsorship and direct advertisement, and publisher fees are the major streams that contribute to the overall revenue generation of the esports market. The increasing popularity of video games and growing awareness about esports are the major factors driving the esports market.

Sponsorships and direct advertisements have a large contribution to the overall esports market revenue. In the recent years, sponsorship has witnessed a vast increase, bringing a whole new dimension to the concept of professional gaming. Sponsorships and direct advertisements offer various opportunities to the brand owners to directly reach to the game fans in an event. Booths, video displays, posters, freebies, interactive advertising, and many other creative methods facilitate this reach to the brands.

Further, the gamers form a highly dedicated audience, with a strong sense of brand loyalty; they tend to be loyal to their preferred products and brands. If brands succeed in attracting esports audience, they would successfully gain some long-term customers. Further, high prize pool events are also boosting the number of viewers and attracting top-level players, especially for offline esports tournaments. The increasing number of offline esports tournaments is providing opportunities for sponsors and advertisers to create brand awareness and loyalty among its customers.

None of this is surprising as the Esports community, through Twitch and Youtube, is growing day by day. Between selling out stadiums for live events to watching celebrities play online and over 500,000 people come to watch said celebrities play. It’s only a matter of time before the Esport market is a billion dollar industry.
