Marvel’s Luke Cage Season 2 Original Soundtrack Album Release On June 22

Marvel is set to release the digital soundtrack for the second season of the Netflix original series “Marvel’s Luke Cage” on June 22, 2018. The album coincides with the release of the second season of the hit series on the same day and features an original score by returning composers Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest) and Adrian Younge (Ghostface Killah, JAY-Z, Bilal, Souls of Mischief).

The duo’s critically acclaimed score for Season 1 featured influences ranging from David Axelrod, Ennio Morricone, to A Tribe Called Quest and Wu-Tang Clan, which were brought to life in the series and soundtrack.  The musical world created by the composers became a character, infused with hip-hop culture for the show’s Harlem setting.

For the second season, the composers desired to expand the sound and included a rhythm section and orchestra.  For the character Bushmaster (Luke Cage’s nemesis), Muhammad and Younge created what they call “symphonic reggae” for his theme, blending the soul of reggae music with an orchestra.  Their inspirations for Season 2 included the films of Alfred Hitchcock and “Mission Impossible,” plus the television series “Kojak,” “Baretta” and “The Incredible Hulk.”

In addition to the score, the album also includes licensed tracks plus the song “King’s Paradise” performed in an episode by Rakim, regarded as one of the most influential MCs of all time.  The track was written by William Griffin, Younge, and Muhammad.

Also featured in an episode is R&B singer Joi performing “Love You Forever Right Now,” a song she co-wrote with Marlon Cox and Gabrielle Dennis (Tilda Johnson) performing “Family First,” a song co-written by Younge, Muhammad, and Dennis, with vocals produced by Cheo Hodari Coker.  The soundtrack also includes two covers by teen blues guitarist Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, “I Put a Spell on You,” and “The Thrill is Gone.” All songs were composed and produced by Younge and Muhammad.

Showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker said, “If Season 1 was about the hip-hop and the Wu-Tangification of the Marvel Universe, Season 2 is about the ROOTS of hip-hop: reggae and the blues.  How both smashed up against each other to create the sonic backdrop of what we now know as hip-hop. The rhythmic stew of funk, rhythm and blues, soul, melded with the Jamaican ‘DJ’ tradition.   Harlem’s Paradise, which is tied to the family legacy of both Mariah Dillard Stokes and John ‘Bushmaster’ McGiver, is where the musical sensibilities of both clash.  One of the secrets of the show is whoever looks down at the club from Cottonmouth’s ‘perch’ controls the music of the club and has reign over Harlem.”

Coker continues, “The music selection and the sequencing is a labor of love, and is one of the most important things I do as showrunner of this show. I love the fact that all of musical sensibilities meld with our storytelling and dramatic desires as a writer’s room, cast, and production crew. I get to be both John Wells and Quincy Jones.”

In Season 2 of the Netflix original series, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) has become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation as bulletproof as his skin. But being so visible has only increased his need to protect the community and find the limits of who he can and can’t save. With the rise of a formidable new foe, Luke is forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain. Marvel’s Luke Cage is rated TV-MA and is streaming now only on Netflix.

Marvel’s Luke Cage Season 2 Original Soundtrack Album will be available for download and at streaming services on June 22. For more information, stay tuned to Marvel.com, @MarvelMusicInc on Twitter, and the official site for Marvel’s Luke Cage for all the updates.

Star Wars Robot Vacuums Are A Thing

I find that I haven’t grown out of having toys. They just tend to be cooler and more expensive as I get older. That’s why when I saw that Samsung was coming out with Star Wars Robot vacuums I geeked out quite a bit. I mean serious putting “adulting” chores and Star Wars is a win in my book.

The vacuums have a full view sensor which is so good that it can avoid things like chair legs or a wider area. They also have a bristle brush and drop-down shutter to capture dust trapped in corners and along the edges of walls. You can also remotely control the vacuum through an app on your phone or use voice control with Amazon Alexa or the Google Assistant to control it.

But the best part about the vacuum it comes as either Darth Vader or a StormTrooper with pre-installed iconic phrases and sound effects while it’s working.

The downside of it? To Buy the Vader version will cost you $799.00 and the StormTrooper version is $699. For more information check out the video below or if you are a diehard Star Wars fan you can buy one here.

Amazon Alex Coming To Hotels

Yep, you read that right Amazon Alex is looking to break into the hotel industry with Alexa for Hospitality. Amazon says that the basic idea is “Alexa for Hospitality is an experience that brings the simplicity and convenience of Alexa to hotels, vacation rentals, and other hospitality properties using in-room Alexa enabled devices, like an Echo”.

But what can Alexa for Hospitality do?

Amazon says “When you stay in a property with Alexa, you can play music from iHeartRadio and TuneIn, check the weather, set alarms, and ask for general information. Additionally, properties can create custom experiences with Alexa to make your stay more convenient and enjoyable. For example, you may be able to request items like towels or toiletries, get local recommendations, contact the front desk, control smart home features such as lights or room temperature, entertainment, and more, all by simply asking Alexa”.

But with all the recent privacy issues in the media, Amazon has built a bunch of privacy features that should help ease people’s worries about if it’s listening to them or not. For example;

Wake word: To use Alexa, simply say the wake word, “Alexa.” When Alexa detects the wake word, the light ring atop the device will light up blue to indicate that she is streaming audio to the cloud, where Alexa recognizes and responds to your request. Alexa will not stream audio to the cloud unless she is activated by the wake word.

Microphone on/off button: Using Alexa is optional. If you do not want to use Alexa, you can push the microphone on/off button built on top of the device. When the microphone on/off button is pressed, the microphones are electrically disconnected, cannot detect the wake word, and cannot stream any audio to the cloud. The light ring will turn red when the microphones are disconnected.

Privacy: Hotels can’t listen to what you said to Alexa or what she said back.

Security: Amazon encrypts all data in transit between the Amazon Echo and Amazon’s servers, and all customer data is securely kept on Amazon AWS servers.

It’s steps like this that give proof that Voice is not only coming but it’s here and it’s not going away anytime soon.

Esports Market Worth 2,174.8 million USD by 2023

According to the new market research report, published by MarketsandMarkets™, the market is expected to be worth USD 926.3 million in 2018 and is expected to reach USD 2,174.8 million by 2023, at a CAGR of 18.61% between 2018 and 2023. Media rights (subscription and online advertisement), tickets and merchandise, sponsorship and direct advertisement, and publisher fees are the major streams that contribute to the overall revenue generation of the esports market. The increasing popularity of video games and growing awareness about esports are the major factors driving the esports market.

Sponsorships and direct advertisements have a large contribution to the overall esports market revenue. In the recent years, sponsorship has witnessed a vast increase, bringing a whole new dimension to the concept of professional gaming. Sponsorships and direct advertisements offer various opportunities to the brand owners to directly reach to the game fans in an event. Booths, video displays, posters, freebies, interactive advertising, and many other creative methods facilitate this reach to the brands.

Further, the gamers form a highly dedicated audience, with a strong sense of brand loyalty; they tend to be loyal to their preferred products and brands. If brands succeed in attracting esports audience, they would successfully gain some long-term customers. Further, high prize pool events are also boosting the number of viewers and attracting top-level players, especially for offline esports tournaments. The increasing number of offline esports tournaments is providing opportunities for sponsors and advertisers to create brand awareness and loyalty among its customers.

None of this is surprising as the Esports community, through Twitch and Youtube, is growing day by day. Between selling out stadiums for live events to watching celebrities play online and over 500,000 people come to watch said celebrities play. It’s only a matter of time before the Esport market is a billion dollar industry.

Jon Bernthal Returning To The Walking Dead

Actor Jon Bernthal was spotted with fellow castmates Norman Reedus and Andrew Lincoln around the Georgia area where they shoot The Walking Dead. In fact, TVLine has confirmed that he will indeed return for season 9. This is a big deal to many Walking Dead fans as Bernthal was written off the show of the end of season 2 when he was killed by his best friend Rick (Andrew Lincoln). The rumors suggest that Bernthal will either show up in a flashback before he was killed or a hallucination.

His comeback also coincides with the rumors that Andrew Lincoln is looking to depart the series after next season. So with Bernthal in the picture again it seems likely this rumor will turn out to be true. Because of that AMC is looking to give Norman Reedus a fairly large pay increase and large role in the series to keep him around.

Bernthal’s recent work includes Netflix’s The Punisher and an appearance on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmit.

The Walking Dead stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Chandler Riggs, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Lennie James, Alanna Masterson, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Austin Amelio, Tom Payne, Xander Berkeley, Khary Payton, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Sam Mendes to Make Self-Penned WW1 Drama 1917 for Amblin

Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes brings his World War I film, 1917, to Amblin Partners. Mendes, who wrote the original script with Krysty Wilson-Cairns, will direct and produce the film. Pippa Harris, Mendes’ producing partner at Neal Street Productions, will also produce.

Production is targeting an April 2019 start for a US release in December 2019 through Amblin’s distribution partner, Universal Pictures.

1917 marks a reunion for Mendes and the Steven Spielberg-led Amblin Partners. The British director made his first feature, the Oscar-winning American Beauty, under the DreamWorks Pictures label, followed by two other productions – Road to Perdition and Revolutionary Road. Mendes most recently directed the last two movies in the James Bond franchise, Spectre, and Skyfall.

Said Sam Mendes: “I couldn’t be happier to be back working with Amblin and Steven Spielberg again, alongside Donna Langley and all at Universal. I’ve been working on this script for over a year, so it’s very exciting to start making the movie itself a reality.”

Said Steven Spielberg: “Our company has been a home for Sam since his first film. I am so happy to have him back here in his old room spinning new stories – especially this hugely daring and ambitious new movie.”

CAA Media Finance packaged the film and brokered the deal.

Weekend Box Office: June 15-17, 2018

This weekend’s box office saw huge success for Pixar’s long-awaited sequel “Incredibles 2”. Opening up in over 4,410 screens, it came in first with a total of $180 million nationally, which is the biggest opening for an animated movie ever. Directed by Brad Bird and voiced by Craig Nelson, Holly Hunter, and Samuel Jackson, this animated superhero movie has been a hit with both fans and reviewers, with a Rotten Tomato score of 95% and an audience score of 89% the overall consensus that it was worth the wait. Overseas the movie brought in $53.1 million which in total brought it to $233 million overall.

In second place was “Ocean’s 8” starring Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter and a whole laundry list of other A-list talent. Being a spinoff of the popular Ocean’s 11, the movie itself saw a 53% decrease in its second weekend, which it brought in a total $19.5 million. The decrease is not surprising as the movie’s Rotten Tomato score was only 67% and an audience score of 49%. Domestically it has seen $79 million so far and worldwide overall $115 million. Though while numbers are low, I expect Warner Bros will do a trilogy of these movies.

Third place was the new rated R movie “Tag” starring  Ed Helms and Jeremy Renner. Opening up in 3,382 theaters, the movie brought in a disappointing $14.6 million in its opening weekend. While the audience and reviewers were mixed with a Rotten Tomato score of only 56% and an audience score of 73%, I expect the drop off to be pretty dramatic next week. The movie based on a true story. The synopsis says “For one month every year, five highly competitive friends hit the ground running in a no-holds-barred game of tag they’ve been playing since the first grade–risking their necks, their job, and their relationships to take each other down with the battle cry “You’re It!” This year, the game coincides with the wedding of their only undefeated player, which should finally make him an easy target.”

In fourth place was “Solo: A Star Wars Story” with $9 million and in fifth place was “Deadpool 2” with $8.8 million. For more information check out www.boxofficemojo.com.

TRAILER: Lucy

Scarlett Johansson turns into a superhuman in the new movie trailer “LUCY”.

Known to many as the “Black Widow” from the Marvel franchise “The Avengers”, Johansson is kicking butt and taking names as she accidentally gains superhuman powers through no fault of her own. The plot is going off that idea that humans only use 10% of their brain. She quickly realizes she is using more than most.

Directed by Luc Besson, who has written for franchises like Transporter and Taken. This will be the first time directing within this type of movie genre. Many know of his work as he was the director of the sci-fi movie “The Fifth Element”. Johansson swings into action on the big screen on August 8, 2014. Until then you can see her this weekend in the new Captain America movie coming out Friday.
